On the morning of July 7 we headed to Children's Hospital for Landon's surgery. This was by far the scariest day for both Dustin and I. Our emotions were running high, and we just wanted this to be over! This day felt like it would never come, but yet same so fast. My parents drove up the night before to be with us. I was so glad to seem them! As we all walked into Children's together we were met by all of Dustin's family. We are so lucky to have such WONDERFUL, supportive family. It was So early and it meant so much to us that everyone was there with us! We got called back to do paper work, after we finished that everyone said bye to Landon and gave him kisses and hugs. We were taken back to a room so they could check Landon's temperature and weight. We waited for the doctor to come in and talk to us. He drew a picture of what he was going to go, and went over any questions we had. Next the anesthesiologist came in and went over everything (she was so great, and very precise). She walked us down the hall as far as we could go and took Landon from us, right then and there we both lost it. Our baby was off to surgery.
Our family took up a whole corner of the waiting room (they told us only Dustin and I were allowed in there, well we had different plans). They didn't seem to mind. The nurses were so great, they called and kept us updated. They called when the surgery started, and about an hour into surgery to let us know everything was going great. She informed Dustin that she would call back in about an hour, so we were expecting that the surgery wasn't near finished. Dustin was headed to the bathroom and was out by the elevators when I saw Dr. Sklar walk into the waiting room with a blank stare (and if you ever met this doctor you would know what I mean) my stomach dropped, why was he already in here?! He looked and me and asked me where my husband was. Dustin's sisters went and grabbed him from the elevators, and as we walked through the waiting room I was sick to my stomach. He took us to a room and informed us that everything went GREAT! Thank GOD!!!!!! I felt like jumping up and down and giving him a huge hug! Dr. Sklar said they were stitching him up and he would be in ICU in a little bit.
Dustin and I were finally able to eat. I had not been able to eat in a few days. I was so sick to my stomach worrying. We headed downstairs to the cafeteria and waited to go see Landon. John called Dustin's cell phone and told him they came to tell us we could go see Landon. Dustin was the first into see Landon, as I walked in Dustin said to me, "look how good he looks!" We were so relieved and excited. He looked great, very swollen, but great! He stayed in ICU for one night then was moved to a regular room for 2 more nights.
We sat there and watched him, talked to him and held each other. This day never felt like it would ever get here, let alone be over. We were floating on clouds. Dustin literally said, "I feel like I could jump out this window and fly right now."
Landon had so many visitors, and received so many nice gifts, balloons and flowers. Thank you so much to all of out family and friends were coming to visit! We could have not done this without all of our family. WE LOVE YOU AND PRAYERS WERE ANSWERED! Also, a BIG thank you to Ashley who texted me the day we were leaving the hospital and told me she was coming to stay for a few days to help. What a huge surprise and it meant so much to Dustin and I. Ashley got to our house the day we got home and stayed 2 nights. She came TOTALLY prepared with food and toys! Any errand we needed she was right on top of it, she listened to me cry and even drove around with us for hours trying to get Landon asleep. Ash, thank you for all your help and everything you do. Keep on praying because in a couple of months we go back for another MRI to make sure the surgery worked. Dr. Sklar feels very good about this surgery, as well as all of us. Landon recovered so fast, and did such a awesome job. The nurses were so amazing, Dr. Sklar and his team are beyond amazing and overall we had such a great experience.
He is such a strong little baby and this only made him stronger. He went through more at 10 months than some people have all their lives.
Landon's 6 week check up went great. Dr. Sklar said his scar looks great, and he is doing awesome. What can we say... that's our boy!
